Sarvavyāpi
अन्तर्बहिश्च तत् सर्वम् व्याप्य नारायण स्थितः । नारायण सूक्तम्
antar bahiśca tat sarvam vyāpya nārāyaṇa stithaḥ
—nārāyaṇa sūktam
ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्यन्तानाम् अन्तर्हृदयेषु बहिर् अपि च
आकाश इव । भवान् एक एव — याज्ञवल्क्य
brahmādi-stamba-paryantānām
antar-hṛdayeṣu bahir api ca
ākāśa iva ... bhavān eka eva —Yāñavalkyar
सर्वतः पाणि पादं तत् सर्वतः अक्षि शिरो मुखं ।
सर्वतः श्रुति मल् लोके सर्वम् आवृत्य तिष्ठति ॥ भ.गी.१३.१३
sarvataḥ pāṇi pādaṁ
tat sarvataḥ akṣi śiro mukhaṁ .
sarvataḥ śruti mal loke
sarvam āvṛtya tiṣṭhati .. —bg.13.13
S. Radhakrishnan:- With his hands and feet everywhere, with eyes, heads and faces on all sides, with ears on all sides, He dwells in the world, enveloping all. —bg.13.13
ātmā kṣetrajña ity uktaṁ samyuktaṁ prakṛtair guṇair tair eva tu vinirmuktaṁ paramātmety udāhṛtaḥ. —M.B. Śāntiparva, 187.24.
बहिर् अन्तश्च भूतानां अचरं चरम् एव च ।
सूक्ष्मत्वात् तद् अविज्ञेयं दूरस्थं च अन्तिके च तत् ॥ भ.गी.१३.१५
bahir antaś ca bhūtānāṁ
acaraṁ caram eva ca .
sūkṣmatvāt tad avijñeyaṁ
dūrasthaṁ ca antike ca tat .. —bg.13.15
S. Radhakrishnan:- He is without and within all beings. He is unmoving as also moving. He is too subtle to be known. He is far away and yet is He near. —bg.13.15
ज्योतिषाम् अपि तत् ज्योतिस् तमसः परम् उच्यते ।
ज्ञानं ज्ञेयं ज्ञान–गम्यं हृदि सर्वस्य विष्ठितम् ॥ भ.गी.१३.१७
jyotiṣām api taj jyotis
tamasaḥ param ucyate .
jñānaṁ jñeyaṁ jñāna–gamyaṁ
hṛdi sarvasya viṣṭhitam .. —bg.13.17
S. Radhakrishnan:- He is the Light of lights, said to be beyond darkness, Knowledge, the object of knowledge and the goal of knowledge - He is seated in the hearts of all. —bg.13.17
The Light dwells in the heart of every being. Many of these passages are quotations from the Upaniṣads. See Śvetāśvatara Up., III.8 and 16; Īśa Up., 5; Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad., III.I.7; Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad., IV.4.16.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa's message by his minister Śrī Uddhava to Nandagopa and Yaśodā, highlighting the fact that the Supreme is within the heart of every being. Following verses are from Śrīmad Bhāgavadam 10.46.36 and 10.46.43
अन्तर्हृदि सा भूतानाम् आस्ते ज्योतिरिवेदसि । भा.पु
antar hṛdi sa bhūtānām āste jyotir iva edhasi —36
antaḥ — within; hṛdi — the hearts; saḥ — He; bhūtānām — of all living beings; āste — is present; jyotiḥ — fire; iva — just as; edhasi — within firewood.
The Supreme Light dwells in the heart of every being. This repeatedly emphasised again again, another verse from Śrīmad Bhāgavadam Śrī Kṛṣṇa's teachings to Śrī Uddhava, bp.11.29.13
माम् एव सर्वभूतेषु बहिर् अन्तर् अपावृतम्
ईक्षेतात्मनि चात्मानं यथा खम् अमलाशयः । भा.पु ।
mām eva sarva-bhūteṣu
bahir antar apāvṛtam .
īkṣetātmani cātmānaṁ
yathā kham amalāśayaḥ ..
mām — Me; eva — indeed; sarva-bhūteṣu — within all living beings; bahiḥ — externally; antaḥ — internally; apāvṛtam — uncovered; īkṣeta — one should see; ātmani — within himself; ca — also; ātmānam — the Supreme Soul; yathā — as; kham — the sky; amala-āśayaḥ — having a pure heart.
दृष्टं श्रुतं भूतभवद्भविष्यत्
स्थास्नुश् चरिष्णुर् महद् अल्पकं च
विनाच्युताद् वस्तु तरां न वाच्यं
स एव सर्वं परमात्मभूतः । भा.पु.४३
dṛṣṭaṁ śrutaṁ bhūta-bhavad-bhaviṣyat
sthāsnuś cariṣṇur mahad alpakaṁ ca
vinācyutād vastu tarāṁ na vācyaṁ
sa eva sarvaṁ paramātma-bhūtaḥ —43
dṛṣṭam — seen; śrutam — heard; bhūta — past; bhavat — present; bhaviṣyat — future; sthāsnuḥ — stationary; cariṣṇuḥ — mobile; mahat — large; alpakam — small; ca — and; vinā — apart from; acyutāt — imperishable, permanent; vastu — thing; tarām — at all; na — is not; vācyam — capable of being named; saḥ — He; eva — alone; sarvam — everything; parama-ātma — as the Supersoul; bhūtaḥ — manifesting.
ऋषिभिर् बहुधा गीतं चन्दोभिर् विविधैः पृथक् ।
ब्रह्म–सूत्र–पदैश् च एव हेतु–मद्भिर् विनिश्चितैः ॥ भ.गी.१३.४
ṛṣibhir bahudhā gītaṁ
candobhir vividhaiḥ pṛthak .
brahma–sūtra–padaiś ca eva
hetu–madbhir viniścitaiḥ .. — bg.13.4
